Triffid Tonics
Triffid Tonics
If you’re looking for a premium Australian artisan mixer brand to feature, The Triffid Tonic Company has a compelling story and a strong point of difference.
About Triffid Tonic
The Triffid Tonic Company is a Melbourne-based producer of handcrafted tonic water syrups, founded during the 2020 lockdowns by pharmacist Greg and business partner Nick. Their philosophy is simple: bring tonic water back to its roots using natural quinine, real botanicals, less sugar and traditional production methods.
Unlike many commercial tonic waters that use synthetic quinine and high sugar levels, Triffid uses natural cinchona bark, the original source of quinine, combined with carefully selected botanicals and native Australian ingredients.
What They’re Known For
Triffid has developed a reputation for:
-
Handcrafted small-batch tonic water syrups.
-
Natural quinine sourced from cinchona bark rather than synthetic alternatives.
-
Lower sugar content than traditional tonic waters.
-
Unique botanical flavour profiles.
-
Australian native ingredients such as Tasmanian Pepperberry and Lemon Myrtle.
-
Tonics that are designed to be enjoyed on their own, not just as a mixer.
Popular flavours include:
-
Bitter Orange
-
Hibiscus & Fresh Ginger
-
Tasmanian Pepperberry & Lemon Myrtle
-
Quince Sherbet
Awards & Recognition
Triffid achieved notable success at the Bartender Spirits Awards 2025, where several products were recognised:
-
Quince Sherbet Syrup – Silver Medal, 87 points
-
Tasmanian Pepperberry & Lemon Myrtle – 85 points
-
Hibiscus & Ginger – 85 points
-
Bitter Orange Tonic Syrup – 84 points
These results positioned the brand among internationally recognised premium mixers and cocktail ingredients.
Bitter Orange
This original recipe is where The Triffid Tonic Co. started, with a colonial style tonic that was thought to be not only anti-malarial and drunk medicinally, but also delicious!
Full of fresh citrus flavours, this is a refreshing and balanced tonic. Enjoy this tonic with soda water, the alcohol is optional as it stands on its own as a sophisticated sipping drink.
As excellent option to serve at a party as it pairs wonderfully with a London Dry gin, but those not drinking can be served exactly the same thing without the alcohol. Not many hosts are able to keep their non-drinkers in the loop with something so elegant.

Hibiscus & Fresh Ginger
This tonic is marked by blackberry jam flavours, with a hint of a ginger bite at the end. It is the least sweet tonic in the line up and best suited to those with a more savoury palette. The richness of the colour makes it perfect for cocktails and for serving on its own to your non-drinkers.
The boldness of the flavours feature beautifully in our take of a Singapore Sling, and for those wanting a punchy grown up sipping cocktail, a Pisco Sour.

Tasmanian Pepperberry & Lemon Myrtle
Before you add the soda water, just smell this tonic – it’s the smell of the Australian bush.
Tasmanians always say it reminds them of home and with good reason. The pepperberry gives this tonic an earthiness, while the lemon myrtle reminds you of eucalypt and a refreshing bushland after the rains aura. Put just a dash in a glass of prosecco and it’s Christmas in a glass.
Of course there’s also the colour. The purple of the pepperberry gives a stunning rose hue to our most popular tonic.

Quince Sherbet
A most delightful drink! This quince sherbet is a recipe dating from the 15th century. It dances on the tongue with fruity quince and a smooth vanilla finish. A whole quince and vanilla bean go into the making of this extraordinary drink. Lovely in Prosecco or on its own with soda water.
